Darrell Brown, Youth Symphony conductor
Darrell Brown is the Director of Bands at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where he also teaches courses in conducting and music education. As a conductor/composer/educator, Dr. Brown has previously held similar positions at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho, and at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Additionally, he has held positions as the musical director and conductor of the New Berlin Community Band, the Youth Wind Orchestra of Wisconsin, and as the assistant bandmaster of the Civil War brass band, the 1st Brigade Band, in Wisconsin; the Rexburg Tabernacle Orchestra and the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony in Idaho; the Corpus Christi Municipal Band in Texas; and as the assistant director of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra. Brown regularly serves as a guest conductor and clinician with recent engagements in Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Cuba, and Spain, and ensembles under his direction have performed at conferences for the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the Wisconsin Music Educators Association (WMEA).
Dr. Brown has taught music at the Camelot Schools in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe and in the public schools in Las Vegas, Nevada, Agua Dulce, Texas, and Provo, Utah. A student of G. Thomas Leslie, Dr. Brown received his DMA from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and he received his MM in Instrumental Conducting and his BM in K-12 Instrumental Music Education from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. As an active composer, Dr. Brown writes music for a wide array of ensembles with recent premieres at conferences of the CBDNA and the Iowa Bandmasters Association, and has music published through Murphy Music Press. Dr. Brown is a member of the National Band Association (NBA), International Society for Research and Promotion of Wind Music (IGEB), Windjammers Unlimited (The Circus Music Historical Society), NAfME, CBDNA, and is an executive board member for the international wind band organization World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE).
