We are committed to keeping you safe.

During these unprecedented times, YMI is taking steps to ensure that students are safe from COVID-19. We ask that all students stay home when they feel ill or are placed in healthy quarantine in school, and email execdir@youthmusicillinois to notify us of that absence. Our absence policy is forgiving this year, and students are welcome to join via Zoom if they feel uncomfortable participating in person.

All students will have their temperatures checked at the door, and will be asked to leave if their temperature exceeds 100.4 degrees. All students are to remain masked at all times inside the building, with masks covering their nose and mouth. Winds/Brass students may modify a mask to accommodate a mouthpiece, but should wear a second, non-modified mask on top when not playing. Students will be seated with at least six feet of distance between them and are asked to maintain that distance when not in their seats. We abide by the guidelines in the IDPH Restore Illinois plan as an "Organized Recreational Group," and will not exceed the maximum number of people allowed in a room at any time.

So far, our guidelines have kept our students safe, with no outbreaks within the orchestras and no confirmed positive cases ever at a rehearsal. We are indebted to schools for handling the monumental tasks of safety precautions and contact tracing. We are grateful for safety so far, and the adherence to the guidelines that we've set out.

These mitigations will remain in effect until a vaccine is widely available to the public or until public health experts inform us otherwise. As always, we thank you for your commitment to the health and safety of the orchestras, and your continued support of YMI.
