Careers at YMI

Development Coordinator
Youth Music Illinois is seeking a part-time development coordinator, with the possibility of growing to full-time for the right candidate.

Overview:
Youth Music Illinois was founded in 1965 by a group of music educators in Peoria, Illinois. Since then, the administrative staff has grown from one of volunteers to include an Executive Director and a Suzuki School of Music Director. Now, we are looking for a candidate to propel us into the future with their knowledge and results in development.

Skills required:
The ideal candidate is one with a passion and drive to raise money for a growing youth orchestra program. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must, as is a general ability to operate with the tools we currently use - Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, social media, and others. Strong interpersonal skills are key to success in this role. As is often the case, the ability to multitask will carry the candidate far in this position. Access to a computer is required.

Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years grant writing, grant research preferred
  • 2+ years donor relationship management
  • 2+ years in an arts-related field preferred

Expectations and measures of success:
  • They will work with the Executive Director to create a fundraising plan for the year and to execute that plan.
  • They will be responsible for growing our corporate and individual donor base.
  • They will be responsible for researching grants and in some cases may be responsible for writing the applications.
  • They will assist the Executive Director for the annual fund campaign, strengthen and build the corporate sponsorship program, and will increase the number of individual donors.
  • They will write thank you notes to our donors.
  • They will comply with the Association of Fundraising Professionals code of ethics, found here: https://afpglobal.org/ethicsmain/code-ethical-standards
  • They will assist in the planning and execution of our annual fundraiser event
  • They will work closely with the Executive Director to assess and reorganize donation levels.
  • They will report to the Executive Director, providing a monthly report of activities that can be presented at the board meeting.

Pay scale:
$20/hr, hourly, part time. This could easily grow to full time for the right candidate. Mostly remote, with the exception of fundraising events.
